Why choose an International Mountain Leader as your guide?

Union of International Mountain Leaders AssociationAn International Mountain Leader (IML) is a person who has been trained and assessed over a number of years against the challenging requirements set out by the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA).

The IML qualifies the holder to lead groups in mountain ranges all over the world, including high altitude treks and expeditions, summer and winter. Only a qualified International Mountain Leader has the badge and the carnet of The UIMLA organisation.

Apart from navigating and looking after your safety, the key role of an IML is an educational one, and they will aim to impart a lot of information about the route or area  you are visiting in terms of geology, history, culture,  and  the  environment.  An IML will do far more than just to lead you along the route. They aim to enthuse and share their knowledge, to give you a far richer experience and understanding of the mountains.
