The opportunity of an even bigger and better 3 Peaks Challenge. The Sierra Nevada boasts the highest mountain in mainland Spain, Mulhacen 3482m which together with Alcazaba 3371m and Veleta 3394m provides the perfect format for a Three Peaks Challenge.
There are various ways of undertaking the 3 Peaks; a fit team could tackle the challenge spending just 3 nights in Spain. However to ensure complete success, we suggest a more leisurely approach spending 2 nights at the Poqueira Refuge.
Day 1.
Take the National Park bus from Capileira; ascend Alcazaba. Descend to the Refugio Poqueira, where we spend the night.
Day 2.
Ascent of Veletta via the Rio Seco; return to the Poqueira refuge.
Day 3
Ascent of Mulhacen via the Caldera. Return via Hoya del Portillo where transport awaits and then to Capileira.
The 3 day trip can be combined with other mountain routes or just relaxing beside the pool if part of a family holiday.
