Mountain Walking and Scrambling

A week spent mountain walking and scrambling in the high places of the spectacular  Sierra Nevada mountain range. Highlights include airy ridges, ascents of Veletta, Alcazaba and Mulhacen, mainland Spain’s highest peak at 3474m.

The mountain walking and scrambling week itinerary includes:
Day 1  Arrive. We collect you from Malaga Airport. Spend the night in  Lanjarón.

Day 2  An ascent of Alcazaba, one of our favourite mountains, via the beautiful valley of the seven lakes.  Involves a steep descent and a chance to practice some movement over rock.

Day 3  Drive north to the Sierra De Huetor, to explore the scrambles on the one of the magnificent limestone peaks to be found in this protected area.

Day 4  An ascent of ‘Observatory’ ridge a high mountain scramble which will take us above 3000m

Day 5  Depart for Capileira, and catch a bus which enables an ascent of Mulhacén (3482m) Spain’s highest mountain with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada range.  Depending on conditions, we may be able to include some scrambling in the rio Mulhacen.

Day 6  An ascent of Caballo, Europe’s most westerly 3000m peak with some scrambling.

Day 7  Drive to the Sierra Nevada ski resort for an easy scramble to reach the summit of Veletta, the second highest mountain in the range followed by an airy and more challenging ridge.

Day 8 Return to Malaga airport.
